Making the connection with social networking |
Robin Petterd |
Robin discovered that his students preferred to use a social networking tool of their own choosing for the task of keeping a work journal, rather than a specified blog site. Some students were already members of a design community within a media sharing/networking service, and others soon followed. In this case, listening to how students wanted to engage with social software was a critical factor for success. Robin’s students are undertaking Certificate IV and Diploma courses in the Design and Digital Media program. The program blends face-to-face with e-learning supports. Students move into the Design, Print and Animation industries. At the time of recording this case study, Robin Petterd was Acting Team Leader, Art, Craft and Design, Clarence Campus, (South) Institute of TAFE Tasmania. |
Robin talks about how he discovered ways to engage his students with online journalling and documenting evidence. Click the play button below.
It was critical for Robin to negotiate with students to use the media sharing service which is, for students, a personal and social tool as well as a tool for their learning program.
