Polling
Polling
Tools: Virtual conferencing
The facilitator will need to set up:
- a virtual conference space or room
- a prepared list of polling questions
- a polling function with questions loaded.
Strategies: community building; knowledge sharing
Students are polled on a number of questions and these are used to generate debate and conversation.
- During the session the facilitator introduces polling questions as they relate to a topic or other session activities, and students are asked to vote.
- As students vote on the issue they can see how their opinion compares with those of other students.
- Polling can also be used to revise previous sessions. For example, to ask students about the meaning of a concept that was covered in a previous session.
- The results can be used by the facilitator to engage students in the issue. This can add a further dimension to an activity as students are commenting on their own votes and those of their peers.
